Originally called the Channing Street Home for Sick and Destitute Women, the Channing Home was founded by Harriet Ryan Albee in 1857 as place to feed and care for indigent and sick women, most of whom were victims of tuberculosis. The home closed in 1958 and the building and land were sold to Deaconess Hospital.
