Born in Los Angeles November 2,1942, Janine Canan is a Stanford graduate who received her M.D. from New York University School of Medicine and is a practicing psychiatrist in Sonoma, California. She is the author of many books of poetry including In the Palace of Creation: Selected Works 1969-1999 (Scars 2003), and Messages from Amma: In the Language of the Heart, sayings of the Indian "hugging saint" (Celestial Arts 2004), selected for "Best Spiritual Books of 2004."
