This series contains the speeches and writings produced by Robert F. Poole. Included are the speeches Poole delivered as President of Clemson College, articles that Poole wrote during his academic career, and the master's thesis that Poole wrote in 1917. In the series are found copies of speeches that Poole delivered to faculty, cadets, alumni, and civic organizations such as Rotary, Kiwanis, and American Legion. The topics of most speeches concern agricultural production, textile development, and educational improvements in South Carolina. Many of the speeches were later published in newspapers and journals.

Robert Franklin Poole, 1893-1958 was a noted plant pathologist and president of Clemson College from 1940-1958. A 1916 graduate of Clemson College, Poole received his M.S. and Ph. D. in plant pathology from Rutgers University. Poole was appointed associate professor and plant pathologist at North Carolina College in 1926. As president of Clemson from 1940-1958, he oversaw the de-militarization of the campus, the admission of women, and major changes in the physical plant of the campus. ...
