Records of meetings, ledgers, journals, and cash books for both Ipswich and Gilmanton Mills. Correspondence between agent and treasurer and with Lawrence and Company, selling agents, is extensive. Includes letters of treasurers S.D. Parker, R.H. Leonard, and Auguste Richard, and agents W.E. Hayward and L. Kleeb. Also includes correspondence of D.G. Donovan, H.N. Doughty, H.M. Neilsen. There is considerable material on the liquidation of the Ipswich plant.

Textile manufacturer, Ipswich, Mass. Organized in 1868 by Amos A. Lawrence to manufacture hosiery. Absorbed the Gilmanton Mills, Belmont, N.H., in 1909. Lawrence acquired Gilmanton, established in 1834, from Moses Sargent in 1870. By World War I the Ipswich Mills had branches in South Boston, Lowell (Middlesex Dept.), Gloucester as well as Belmont, N.H. In 1928 and 1929 all but the Gloucester department were shut down.
