Papers relating to investments of Gordon McKay (and of his estate), Frank F. Stanley (an executor of McKay's), and Nathaniel S. Shaler, professor of geology at Harvard and dean of the Lawrence Scientific School. The principal records are of the Conrey Placer Mining Company, gold mine in Ruby, Montana (1898-1928) and include lists of stockholders, by-laws, minutes of directors, journals, ledger, letter books, incoming letters, operating statements and unbound papers. Material on the Poor Farm Mining Company and the German Bar Company, both of Montana, is included. Other materials included are minute books of Bottlers Machinery Company (1900-1908), Shaler Water Power Company (1908), Stanley Manufacturing Company (1888-1919), and Wright Seam Pressing Machine Company (1887-1890), all of Portland, Maine; Cochran Ore Company, Rockmart, Georgia (1890-1918); Kentucky Iron Associates, Olympia, Kentucky (1884-1889); and Reynolds Iron Company, Talladega, Alabama (1891-1916).
