"Work, Henry Clay (1 Oct. 1832-8 June 1884), songwriter, was born in Middletown, Connecticut, the son of Alanson Work and Aurelia (maiden name unknown)... He married Sarah Parker in January 1857, and they had four children. He continued to write popular songs suitable for either the parlor or the minstrel show stage...
