This series consists of files that document the activities of Clemson College faculty committees that served from 1930 until 1955. Each of the files contains correspondence or memoranda from President Poole to the chairmen of the committees, and, in turn, reports, minutes, or memoranda from committees to the President or, in some cases, the Board of Trustees. The committee files may be categorized as those that document policy decisions of faculty and administration; departmental and student activities; and the operation of the institution, for example, building and grounds maintenance. The files are arranged alphabetically by title of the committee.

Enoch Walter Sikes was born in Union County, N.C. on May 1, 1868. His education culminated with a Ph.D. in history, government and economics from Johns Hopkins University. Sikes began his faculty career at Wake Forest where he met his future wife, Ruth Wingate. By 1916, Sikes had become president of Coker College, a women's college in Hartsville, S.C. Robert Franklin Poole, 1893-1958 was a noted plant pathologist and president of Clemson College from 1940-1958. A 1916 graduate of Clemson College, Poole received his M.S. and Ph. D. in plant pathology from Rutgers University. Poole was appointed associate professor and plant pathologist at North Carolina College in 1926. As president of Clemson from 1940-1958, he oversaw the de-militarization of the campus, the admission of women, and major changes in the physical plant of the campus. ...
