Diaries kept in interleaved almanacs for the years 1798, 1802, 1808, 1810, 1815, and 1821, by John Pierce, pastor of the First Parish in Brookline, Mass. The brief entries for most dates note his visits, preaching, lectures attended, and other daily business. Also included are lists of visits in and out of town, lists of sermons preached and exchanged, and days for which he received help.

John Pierce (1773-1849) was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard College in 1793. He accepted an invitation to become the pastor of the First Church in Brookline, Massachusetts, and was ordained on March 15, 1797. In 1798, he married Abigail Lovel, who died in 1800. In 1802, he married Lucy Tappan, and he and Lucy were married for 47 years and had 10 children. Pierce was the sole pastor of the First Church in Brookline for 50 years.
