Continuing collection includes correspondence, writings, reports, and collected printed items. Includes information regarding Albert Dent, who was Director of Flint-Goodridge Hospital in New Orleans (1932-1935), its business manager (1935-1941), and also President of the American Missionary Association's Dillard University (1941-1969). He was one of the fouders of the United Negro College fund and served on the boards of many national organizations in health, education, and race relations. He was a charter director of Amistad Research Center. Jessie Dent was winner of four Julliard Foundation fellowships, and received her M.A. from Oberlin Conservatory of Music (1934). Her professional music career as a concert pianist spanned 1924-1051. She initiated the ongoing Ebony Fashion Show along with Chicago publisher John Johnson (1957), and was the first recipient of the Amistad Fine Arts Award (1985). These activities are documented in the Papers.

Johnson, widely regarded as the most influential African American publisher in American history, was born on January 19, 1918, in Arkansas City, Arkansas, to Leroy and Gertrude Johnson Williams.
