Includes reports and correspondence of the Steward's and Bursar's Office. Routine records include vouchers, ledgers, accounts receivable, cash receipts, statements, invoice registers, payroll books, receiving slips, contracts, and reports Records relating to topics and events include student housing (room assignments), 1686-1925, students in the Spanish-American War, 1898, Harvard College Lottery, Patrons, Unemployment Relief Campaign, and Observatory Expeditions. Also contains material relating to University buildings, such as Sanders Theatre and Medical School Physiological Laboratory and the personal and official papers of Levi Farwell. Observatory Expeditions accounts and vouchers : D. P. Todd's trip to Japan, 1887 (UAI 70.28.87.2) contains 8 receipts, 7 of them from Japan, and one of them for eggs (albumen was used in photography). Todd was an Amherst College Professor of Astronomy who went to Japan to make observations of the solar corona during an eclipse. While there, he performed some photographic experiments for Harvard on Mount Fuji.
