Edith Joan Lyttleton of Campbell Town, Tasmania, wrote under the pen name G. B. Lancaster. Her work is variously set in New Zealand (where she spent her childhood), England, Canada, and Australia. Among her works are a collection of short stories, Sons of man (1904), and the novels Jim of the range (1910), Pageant (1933), Promenade (1938), and Grand parade (1943). Franklin, Miles, 1879-1954

Miles Franklin was born in 1879, a fifth-generation Australian, and grew up on grazing properties run by her family in the Monaro region of New South Wales. At nineteen, she wrote 'My Brilliant Career', an important study of the opportunities and expectations faced by young Australian women in the 1890s.
