Josiah Swett (1814-1890) was born in Claremont, NH, and died in Highgate, VT. He graduated with the NU Class of 1837, served in the English Department, 1836-1837, and as professor of Latin and Greek, 1840-1841. Along with Alonzo Jackman, Swett established the New England Seminary in Windsor, VT, in 1841. When the Seminary closed in 1844, both Swett and Jackman returned to NU. Swett left NU in August 1845 and served within the Episcopal Church in New Hampshire and Vermont. He served as NU trustee...
