Holen discusses his family background, education, early involvement in political activities, origin and development of his long friendship with Jesse M. Unruh, working with Unruh on various legislation after accompanying the newly-elected assemblyman to Sacramento in 1959, and comments on many legislative leaders and members as well as Governor Edmund G. Brown, Sr. Discusses current activities with the Southern California Rapid Transit District, the California Museum Foundation, and the Los Angeles Theatre Center.

Attorney. Born August 2, 1929 in Burbank, California. While in high school he met Virginia and Jesse M. Unruh and Jean and Robert Wells, with whom he founded a James Roosevelt for Governor Club. While attending UCLA, he participated in the California Democratic Guild. Holen served as assemblyman Unruh's legislative adviser from 1959-61. In 1961 Holen became the first full-time consultant to the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means and chaired the "NO on Proposition 14" campaign in 1964, fighting...
