"I shall leave for Europe before New Year; I have found very little to praise & have written fresh from the liver; I should not like to be accused of cowardice: i.e., that I skipped because I was afraid to remain here after my book became known, and I beg to ask the favor of you, to mention the book in some N. Y. paper."
