David Plante papers, 1963-1982.

Collection consists of autograph, typescript, carbon copy typescript, photocopied typescript drafts, galley proofs and page notes for short stories, etelevision scripts and novels including The Family and The Woods -- two of the novels in the trilogy, The Francoeur Novels. Also included is one segment, "Jean" (Jean Rhys) of Plante's work Difficult Women. Plante collaborated with Jean Rhys on work towards Rhys' autobiography Smile Please and included in the collection are autograph and typescript notes and drafts from Plante and Rhys. A photocopy typescript of the article by Diana Athill "Jean Rhys and her Autobiography" is also included. Included within the collection are 67 draft reader's reports submitted by Plante to various publishers critiquing other author's proposed books.
