D.M. Meldrum, artist, always known as Max Meldrum, was born in Edinburgh in 1875. He arrived in Melbourne in 1888, studied at the National Gallery School, and won a travelling scholarship in 1899. Artist. Born at St Petersburg (Leningrad) fourth child of George Washington and Annie Matilda Lambert (nee Firth). Won 1899 Wynne prize for "Across the Black Soil Plains". In 1900 he won a travelling art scholarship. From 1917 to 1920 he held an appointment as an official war artist, A.I.F., which resulted in a a series of sketches and large pictures of battles. Antonio Datillo Rubbo (1870-1955) artist and teacher, studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Naples, arriving in Sydney in 1898. He taught at the School of the Royal Art Society and his own atelier. A founder of the Manly Art Gallery and Historical Collection in 1924.
