The records consist of the programme for the official opening, acknowledgement by the Committee, a brief history of the schoolhouse, a list of official guests and committee members, an introductory speech by the convener of the committee (Mrs. George) and speeches by Archdeacon F.M. Hill (Anglican Church), Mr. L.D. Lyons (Roman Catholic Church), Reverend Rex Mathias (Methodist Church), Reverend Alan Watt (Presbyterian Church), Mr. A.H. Body (St. John's Parish Council) and Sir John Overall. There is also a copy of the agreement made between the Church of England and N.C.D.C. in 1967 in which the N.C.D.C. undertook to restore the schoolhouse.

St. John's schoolhouse was built between 1841 and 1845 and in 1864 was rebuilt after being gutted by fire. In 1967 the National Capital Development Commission undertook to restore the school and in 1968 a committee was appointed to prepare the museum which was officially opened on 26 Oct. 1969.
