J.W. Lewin (1770-1819) arrived in Sydney, 1800. He was a painter, engraver and naturalist who published a work on the Lepidoptera of N.S.W. (1805) and "Birds of New South Wales" (1808, 1813, 1822, 1838). Macquarie made him coroner in 1810 and encouraged his painting. He died in Sydney 1819. From the description of Lewin's birds. 1940. Miss Jones was Mitchell Librarian, then London representative for the Library of New South Wales and later Joint Copying Project Officer.
