1. Diaries, 1942-45 (four volumes). 2. Over 100 letters written to Harney, 1943-56, including thirty letters from A.P. Elkin, 1944-49, mostly concerning Australian Aboriginal legends. Other correspondents include Ion Idriess, Roland Robinson, Wilfrid Thomas, Mel Pratt, C.L.A. Abbott, E.W.P. Chinnery, Frank Clune, Charles Chauvel and Mary Gilmore. 3. T/s and mss drafts of various unpublished prose, poetry and non-fiction writings. 4. T/s draft of To Ayers Rock and beyond, c.1960. 5. Handwritten draft of The shady tree. 6. Newspaper clippings, 1940-63. 7. Transcripts of Harney's ABC and BBC radio broadcasts, 1956-63. 8. Copies of Harney's birth, death and marriage certificates. 9. Miscellaneous papers including memberships and licences, 1936-54; Welfare Department directives and papers, 1942-47; and papers re the journal National Geographic, 1948-54.
