Physicist. Briggs was head of the Physics Section, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), later the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), National Standards Laboratories, Sydney, Australia 1939-1945 and then Chief of the Division of Physics, CSIR/CSIRO 1945-1958.
