The records consist of correspondence concerning the establishment of the Council in 1963, its administration (1963-1971); papers dealing with the cases it supported; subject files marked "censorship", "aborigines", "immigration", "ombudsman" and "police"; papers concerning the Council's publication If you are arrested (2nd ed. 1968); and the First Australian Convention of the Councils for Civil Liberties (1968); financial papers (1965-1971) which include membership lists, receipt books, petty cash books, bank statements and treasurer's correspondence.
