Material relating to the history of the Victorian Railways. The collection includes railway books, timetables, rule books, maps, signalling diagrams, parliamentary papers, Railway Standing Committee reports, technical magazines, black and white photos and negatives, colour slides, newspapers clippings, tickets and circulars. Also included are annual reports and Weekly Notices of Victorian Railways. There is also material relating specifically to important events in the history of Victoria, such as the 1956 Olympic Games, the 1954 Royal Visit, the depressions of the 1890s and 1930s, the gold rush of the 1850s and 1860s, the growth of the timber industry, the two World Wars and the launch of the Spirit of Progress in 1937.
