Papers [manuscript]. 1888-1968.

The papers consist principally of correspondence, records, notes, reports, scrapbooks and photographs acquired by Riley whilst he was an executive of the Manufacturing Grocer's Employees Federation of Australia (1922-1961), the Trades Hall Council (1923-1961), the A.L.P. (1925-1955), the Anti-Communist Labor Party (1955-1957) and the Democratic Labor Party (1957-1968). Also included are smaller collections of papers relating to the Socialist Federation of Australia (1910), the anti-conscription campaign and the Australian Peace Alliance (1916-1917), the general election (1919) the Wharf Labourers Women and Children's Relief Committee (1919), the 44 Hour Wage Case (1926), the Y Club (1918-1941), Dr William Maloney's Memorial Fund (1941), the Prices Commission (Commonwealth) (1942-1948), Fred Riley's wife, the former Alice Warburton, and his father Frederick.

Fred Riley was born in South Australia but lived in Melbourne from 1914. A trade unionist, he was an anti-conscriptionist in 1916-1917, secretary of the Manufacturing Grocer's Employees Federation of Australia (1922-1961) and an executive member of the Trades Hall Council (1923-1961), the A.L.P.
