The collection contains papers of John Bolton Carpenter, including various certificates, testimonials from Government Officers and letters including 7 from the Earl of Jersey, 1892-1896. The major part of the collection concerns the case of the ship Costa Rica Packet; the report from the Select Committee on "Costa Rica Packet" case; New South Wales Legislative Council proceedings, 1893, 1894; memoranda from the British Government to the Netherlands Government and translation of the counter-cases presented in the Netherlands Government and the declarations of Charles Bernard, William Inglis and John Bolton Carpenter.
