Founder of Albany. Arrived in Sydney in 1825. In 1826 he left for W.A. aboard the "Amity" in charge of a party of convicts and a detachment from the 39th Regiment, to claim W.A. for the British. He established a military settlement at Frederickstown (now Albany) on King George Sound. His family were pioneers, associated with the building of Shenton's Mill in South Perth, some settling in Northam. From the description of Papers. 1648-1975. (Libraries Australia).
