Samuel Marsden (1764-1838), pioneer clergyman, farmer and sheepbreeder, first reached Australia in 1794. He served as a chaplain in New South Wales from 1794, based at Parramatta. He built St. John's church and a formidable and thriving farm. Ellis Bent (1783-1815) was Judge-Advocate of New South Wales, 1809-1814. Ellis Bent was the brother of Jeffrey Hart Bent.
