The correspondence includes letters from Sir Ian Hamilton, Sir Dighton Probyn, Admiral de Robeck, Sir John Gellibrand, Brig-Gen. Talbot, Austen Chamberlain, Brig-Gen. Neville Smyth, Senator G. F. Pearce, Lt.-Col. Brudenall White, Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson, General H. Chauvel, Sir George Arthur, Sir James Allen, Keith Murdoch, Sir Charles Wade, Maj.-Gen. W. Holmes, Sir Maurice Hankey, Sir Alexander Godley, and Lord Kitchener. The subject coverage reflects the concentration around 1914-1918 and includes military discipline, 1918-1919 conscription referenda, the Dardanelles Commission, and the Gallipoli campaign and evacuation. Birdwood's visit to Australia in 1920 and Kemal Ataturk's funeral are also documented.
