Collection of family, personal and official papers relating mainly to Birdwood's military career, 1914-1918, comprising correspondence, diaries, newscuttings, menus, programs, photographs, presentation documents, maps and printed items. The correspondence includes letters from Sir Ian Hamilton, Sir Dighton Probyn, Admiral de Robeck, Sir John Gellibrand, Brig-Gen. Talbot, Austen Chamberlain, Brig-Gen. Neville Smyth, Senator G. F. Pearce, Lt.-Col. Brudenall White, Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson, General H. Chauvel, Sir George Arthur, Sir James Allen, Keith Murdoch, Sir Charles Wade, Maj.-Gen. W. Holmes, Sir Maurice Hankey, Sir Alexander Godley, and Lord Kitchener. The subject coverage reflects the concentration around 1914-1918 and includes military discipline, 1918-1919 conscription referenda, the Dardanelles Commission, and the Gallipoli campaign and evacuation. Birdwood's visit to Australia in 1920 and Kemal Ataturk's funeral are also documented.
