Rudolf Braunschweig was born in Austria. He married Northern Ireland-born Dr. Ella Chambers in 1931. After graduating from University he became a teacher from 1931 to 1939. He was an active member of the Wandervogel and joined the German army in 1939. After World War II, he lived in Linz until the family, including four children emigrated to Australia in 1950.
