The papers include correspondence (with letters from Archbishop O'Reilly, J. Crawford Vaughan, F.W. Holder), copies of the Transport Tatler, the Terowie Enterprise (1886), Australia Today (1907), the program of celebrations during the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York for the opening of the first Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia in May 1901, invitations, dinner menus, the record of proceedings in connection with the unveiling of a statue to commemorate Charles Kingston, Adelaide (1916), a brochure on the South Australian Shorthand Writers' Association and an extract from parliamentary records relating speeches given on the death of J.V. O'Loghlin. The folios include a newscutting book containing cuttings relating to O'Loghlin's career as a Member of Parliament and his work as a journalist for the S.A. Catholic paper Southern Cross. There are also speeches on federation and documents relating to his term in the services.

J.V. O'Loghlin was elected to the South Australian Parliament for Labor in 1888 and remained there for fifteen years. He held ministerial positions at various times including Chief Secretary and Minister for Defence. From 1913-1919 and then from 1922 until his death he was a member of the senate for South Australia.
