Letter [manuscript]. 1846.

The letter to Miss Macarthur was written the day before Leichhardt left Stroud, N.S.W., on the first stage of his 500 mile journey to the Gulf of Carpenteria. Leichhardt warmly thanks Miss Macarthur for her kindness and entreats her to remember him in her prayers. Miss Macarthur, writing some years after Leichhardt's disappearance, has annotated the letter in her own hand, with reflections on the 1846-1847 expedition and that of 1848 before which she made her last contact with Leichhardt.
