12 letters, 1786-1797 from Lachlan Macquarie to his uncle, Captain Murdoch Maclaine, of Lochbury. The letters are mainly written from India and describe life in India, career prospects and promotions, his marriage in 1793 and the death of his wife in 1796 as well as other family matters. Also includes a letter, 1791 Mar. 31, India, to his cousin, General Allan Maclean describing the progress of the war with Tippoo Sahib and a letter, 1820 June 10, Government House, Sydney to E.S. Hall regarding Hall's request for land "to the south-west of the Cow Pastures" and for appointment to the position of Coroner.
