List of world languages [manuscript]. [ca.1930-1964].

A list, in handwriting, of world languages with notes, vocabularies and bibliographies of relevant works which was compiled by M. H. Preston over 30 years, with the intention of publication- it was not published. Also included are a number of relevant letters mostly typed: to S. H. Ray, and A. P. Elkin, M. W. Stirling and others.

Anthropologist and Anglican priest, Elkin was Head of the Department of Anthropology at Sydney University from 1934-1956, and held a number of professional and academic memberships. His main area of study was the anthropology of Australian Aboriginal people, with a focus also on the people of Papua New Guinea. He was also the editor of Oceania (1933-1979).
