Jacob Bronowski, a mathematician by training, was well known for his work in literature, intellectual history and the philosophy of science. At his death in 1974, Bronowski was Research Professor and Fellow of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego, California and Director of the Council for Biology in Human Affairs there.
