Includes extracts from newspapers, abstracts from published works, and miscellaneous notes on River captains and personalities. Named authors include: Walter E. Bethel, E.J. Brady, Ernestine Hill, Alice Lapthorne, Rod Serle, E.M. Webb, and the Marine Underwriters' and Salvage Association of Victoria.

Vaughan Evans OAM (1924-1993) was a tireless proponent of the Australian National Maritime Museum and a consultant to governments on maritime heritage issues. He was a founder of the Australian Association for Maritime History and its long-time newsletter editor. His extensive personal library, donated in 1986, formed a nucleus of the library's holdings.
