Diary of the ship's surgeon on board the steamship City of Hobart on a voyage from England to Tasmania in 1854. The author describes the preparations for the voyage; various illnesses during the trip; fish and birds seen; ports visited; the poor management of the ship; aborigines at King George Sound; distance travelled each day, and position. The diary is accompanied by sketches, and by a letter to the author's brother, which is to accompany the journal. The transcriber also attaches a map of the route taken and information about the vessel.
