Seven letters to family and friends, 1852 -1854 written on arrival in Melbourne in January 1853. Thomas Payne obtained work as a builder's labourer in Melbourne and describes land and food prices and the fire at Bakery Hill, Ballarat in 1854. Five accompanying envelopes are addressed to Samuel Nicklin and include four slips of notes by E.L. Weatherhead.
