Papers, 1897-1989, bulk 1920-1979.

The collection includes biographical files, correspondence, field notes, lectures, speeches, memoranda, photographs, manuscripts of scientific papers, audio recordings, slides, films, awards, certificates and other material documenting Hubbs' research in ichthyology, zoology, natural history, conservation, taxonomy, archaeology, paleoclimatology, and his studies of marine mammals, birds and fishes. The collection represents the work of Hubbs, his colleagues and students, including his wife and co-author Laura Clark Hubbs. Hubbs' field trips are documented in the subject series which also contains files on professional associations and committees. The marine life series, comprising over half of the collection, documents marine mammals and fish in files arranged taxonomically according to the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology group number.
