The collection includes correspondence, reminiscences, scrapbooks, printed pamphlets, and other materials, chiefly 1846-1873, relating to George Barnsley's years at school and at Oglethorpe University, his service during the Civil War, and his emigration to Brazil. George Scarborough Barnsley of Woodlands Plantation, Cass County, Ga., and São Paulo, Brazil, was a Confederate soldier, hospital steward, medical student, and assistant surgeon in the 8th Georgia Regiment.
