Jean Ashby was involved in the protest movement against the trial and conviction of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain for the alleged murder of their daughter Azaria. Ashby wrote letters of protest to federal and state parliamentarians and attended the Royal Commission of Enquiry into Chamberlain Convictions, 1987. Chamberlain, Lindy, 1948-

On 17 August 1980 Alice Lynne (Lindy) Chamberlain was camping with her husband, Michael, and children at the Ayer's Rock camping ground when her youngest child, Azaria, disappeared from the family tent. Lindy Chamberlain was subsequently convicted of the murder of her daughter and sentenced to life imprisonment. The case attracted wide media coverage and public interest, both within Australia and overseas. All convictions against Lindy and Michael Chamberlain were finally quashed on 15 Sept. 198...
