Life history of John Arthur, Melbourne's first Botanical Gardner: as told to Ambrose Neate, of the Melbourne Botanical Garden's office staff, by Grace Barr, daughter of John Arthur, in 1906, and published in "Open Door" and local papers 1908. Also an account of the arrival of the first Scottish migrant barque, the David Clark, in Port Phillip Bay, 27 Oct. 1839, and a list of 229 immigrants. First marriage in St James old Cathedral Stone Church, Little Collins St. in 1842, of John Arthur's daughter, Elizabeth. Melbourne's first Scottish smiddy (blacksmith) shop in Swanston St., started by John Barr and John Cook, 27 Oct. 1839.
