Founder of Albany. Arrived in Sydney in 1825. In 1826 he left for W.A. aboard the "Amity" in charge of a party of convicts and a detachment from the 39th Regiment, to claim W.A. for the British. He established a military settlement at Frederickstown (now Albany) on King George Sound.
