Comprises letters and papers written by and relating to the Rusden and Spence families. Correspondence includes letters to or from Maria Spence, Georgiana Mary Rusden, Grace Francis Rusden, William Spence, George Keylock Rusden and Francis Townsend Rusden, and are mainly from the 1830s and 1840s. A number of the letters were written in Melbourne, 1832 and in Gippsland, 1840s, and others revolve around Maria Spence's experience and progress at Belfast Writing School, 1830. Paper used for correspondence includes red "V for Victory" letterhead and black-bordered paper and envelopes. Also, personal letter book of F. T. Rusden, 1830-1832; unused notepaper decorated with prints of engravings depicting scenes of the Isle of Wight; two gift cards decorated with hand painted watercolours of a Japanese-style landscape and a grasshopper; and newspaper clipping, 1928. Also, printed catalogue of auction of "Contents of mansion, Leith Hill Place, near Ockley, Surrey, directed by Rev. G. K. Rusden who is about to leave England", 7 October 1833, hand annotated with results (buyer, amount) of each sale; and handwritten "Account sales of furniture, piano forte, books, plates, etc., at the cottage on the road leading to the Botanic Garden, by order of Miss Spence, Belfast, 31 August 1848" which lists all items and their sale prices.
