Diary [manuscript]. 1863 Jun. 22-1863 Sep. 9.

Diary of Edward Charlwood, 22 June to 9 September, 1863, written on board the Suffolk during its voyage from Gravesend to Melbourne. The Suffolk was the vessel that Governor Sir Charles Darling travelled out to Victoria on. This well-written account of the voyage includes a description of the ceremony known as "Crossing the Line," which involved a new member dressing up as Neptune when the ship crossed the equator.
