Folklorist, oral historian, writer and peace activist. In 1955 Wendy Lowenstein co-founded the Folk Lore Society of Victoria with Ian Turner and remained editor of the Society's journal, Australian Tradition, for fifteen years. Through collecting folklore Lowenstein moved into recording tales of working life, leading to the publication of her books on the Depression, Weevils in the flour, (1978), Melbourne waterside workers, Under the hook (1982) and unemployment, Weevils at work (1996).
