William Stanley Knight met Thomas Ham in Melbourne. They formed a partnership in 1861 and set up an engraving and lithography business in Brisbane. Thomas Ham married Mary Jill Collings in 1851; William Knight married her sister, Bertha, in 1868. John Collings and his family came to Melbourne from Kent, England in 1850.
