Ashe was born at Douglas, Isle of Man, in 1851 and died in Fremantle, W.A., in 1932. He and his family emigrated to Victoria in about 1856. They lived first in Collingwood and later in the country (area not named). After his mother's death he was sent back to England on the ship "Lightning" to be cared for my an uncle in Isle of Man. He returned to Australia at the age of 12 and lived with his father at Kyneton, Tylden and Blackwood. Reminiscences end when he started work as a bank clerk in Lint...
