William Randolph Carpenter was born in Marion, Kansas April 24, 1894. He attended Kansas public schools and graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor law school in 1917. He was admitted to the Kansas bar in 1917. Carpenter served in the First World War and returned to Kansas.
