Papers include correspondence, research notes, photographs, and complete or partial manuscripts for a number of Austin's publications, including A Gippsland sketchbook and A pictorial history of Cobb & Co.; also, material such as minutes and newsletters relating to the Friends of the La Trobe Library, 1966-1975; also, personal papers, including income tax returns, autobiographical notes and a family history. There is some correspondence between his publishers and Austin's estate after his death.
