Sir Richard Spencer was Government Resident in Albany 1833-1839. He bought Strawberry Hill Farm at Albany, and developed a farm also at Hay River, north west of Albany. His wife, Lady Anne Warden Spencer (nee Liddon), carried on after the tragic death of her husband and two sons (Hugh Seymour and Horatio William) in 1839-1840.
