The Association was called the Australian Pre-School Association prior to 1981. From 1939 to 1954 it was called the Australian Association for Pre-School Development. There are a number of standing committees. The O.M.E.P. Standing Committee undertakes work of an international level and liaises with the Organisation Mondiale pour l'Education Prescolaire.
